Bee Swarms and Caring for them

It’s May, and healthy honeybee hives will naturally swarm to start new colonies this time of year. If you see a swarm of bees while caring for your garden this is something you may see this time of year. If you see one, don’t spray them! Bees have a hard enough time as it is. Call the Prince William Regional Beekeepers Swarm line, and a local beekeeper will gladly give the bees a good home. If you’re not in Northern Virginia, just let them be. Swarms are temporary and relocate as soon as their scouts find their new home – typically within a couple hours. There are many beekeeping clubs throughout the country, as well as pest control companies that are “bee-friendly” that will work with local beekeepers to relocate swarms.
