Fall is almost upon us! As landscaping needs change with the seasons, here are a few tips to keep in mind as you prepare for autumn in your garden:
1) Care for your garden
It’s that time of year to plant spring-blooming bulbs, cool-season vegetables, trees and shrubs. You’ll also want to protect cold-sensitive plants or bring them inside. If you have a vegetable garden, remove debris and till the plot. This is a great time to go ahead and add a layer of compost to help nurture your soil for spring.
2) Clean out debris
Fall is the perfect time to clear out debris like weeds and old plants from your beds, as well as to trim branches and cut back bushes. And, be sure to clean out those gutters!
3) Prep and store tools
Don’t forget to properly care for your gardening tools. Taking the time to clean and lightly coat them with oil can help prevent rust and make them ready to use next spring.
4) Mow the lawn
We know you’ve been doing this all summer, but it’s important to lower your mower height and cut the lawn to a shorter length. This is helpful for several reasons, especially that it prevents your lawn from matting under the snow.
